Winter storm “Landon” will produce snow, sleet and freezing rain, and is expected to impact a large part of the U.S. this week beginning Tuesday (Feb. 1) in the Rocky’s and moving east, before exiting sometime late Friday.

Winter Storm Landon Will Bring Snow, Sleet & Freezing Rain

The winter weather will spread from the Southern Rockies to the Plains, Midwest and Northeast, and some agencies are saying travel should be avoided from mid-week through Friday.

At this time, there are no anticipated closures or travel bans in place for tractor-trailers but we will keep our owner-operators and freight agents as updated as possible.

Travel Safe & Smart

Everyone at NHH Services and sister company, Medallion Transport & Logistics hope that the traveling public, including all drivers, truck drivers and owner-ops, arrive at their destination safely, so always remember these few important things when traveling on snow or ice covered roads:

  • Slow down
  • Leave extra room
  • Brake and accelerate slowly
  • Listen to the radio for changing weather and road conditions
  • Always buckle up
  • Wear proper clothing
  • Travel with extra water and food
  • Carry an extra flashlight (or two)

Take Extra Caution

Brake and accelerate slowly, most equipment is outfitted with ABS brakes but in the event you have equipment that does not have ABS- pump and release brakes lightly until you slow to a manageable speed.

Black ice can be one of the most dangerous winter conditions you may encounter.

Things you may notice when encountering black ice:

  • Ice build-up on mirrors, antennas, or windshield wipers
  • The spray from tires on others will stop

If the road conditions get too bad sometimes the best thing to do is to get off the road and take a break.

Don’t Forget Your Pre-Trip Inspection

It is always important to do a proper pre trip inspection, especially tire inflation due to constant changing temperatures during wintry conditions.
