The Supreme Court has decided not to hear an appeal against the electronic logging device (ELD) mandate, according to the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration.  The Owner-Operator Independent Drivers Association (OOIDA) had challenged the Department of Transportation's final rule on the basis of privacy and protection against warrantless search and seizure. Unfortunately, the Supreme Court refused to reconsider, resulting in victory for the DOT. As a result, drivers must comply with state legislation, company standards and terms of employment, and the Supreme Court's decision means the mandate will take effect Dec. 18. The DOT rule requires truck operators to use electronic logging to track hours of service. OOIDA brought the lawsuit in March 2016 against the DOT and the FMCSA. A three judge panel heard the case in September 2016, and in October 2016 ruled against OOIDA, although the organization says it will continue to push the issue in Congress.
