This year’s Operation Safe Driver Week is July 12–18, 2026
Operation Safe Driver Week is an annual enforcement and education campaign led by the Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance (CVSA) across the United States, Canada, and Mexico. The initiative aims to improve driving behaviors and reduce crashes involving both commercial motor vehicles and passenger vehicles.
2026 Enforcement Focus
This year’s campaign targets reckless, careless, and dangerous driving behaviors, including:
- Speeding and aggressive driving
- Distracted driving (texting, handheld phone use, etc.)
- Fatigued or drowsy driving
- Following too closely
- Impaired driving (alcohol or drugs)
- Failure to wear a seatbelt.
- Unsafe lane changes
- Ignoring traffic signals and traffic control devices

What Drivers Should Expect
During Operation Safe Driver Week, law enforcement agencies will increase patrols and enforcement activities on highways and major freight corridors. Drivers observed engaging in unsafe behaviors may receive:
- Warnings
- Traffic citations
- Additional inspections (for commercial vehicles)
Safety violations can negatively impact CSA scores, carrier safety records, and may result in further FMCSA scrutiny.
