Unfortunately there are many types of fraudulent loads in the trucking industry. Everything from load scams to double brokering to broker impersonation to stolen freight.
Carriers, drivers and owner-operators in the Medallion Transport & Logistics network, including NHH Services, can look for these key things on the rate confirmation and bill of lading (BOL) to identify a potential fraudulent load.
Address
Look for the most up-to-date address on the rate confirmation. Check to see that it is a current address and not an old or out-of-date one.
Pro Number
The Medallion/NHH network uses a 7-digit pro number. If that is different, it’s a red flag.
Email Address/Website
Double check the email address and website. Medallion and NHH’s websites and emails include a .com address; Medalliontrans.com and NHHServices.com If the rate con displays anything else, like .net or .co, that is a clear indicator something is off.
Charges
Pay attention to how charges are displayed. Auto systems never omit the cents even if the amount is a whole number such as $700.00. It will always be displayed as $700.00 and not just $700.
Compare Rate Con to BOL
Always confirm that the consignee on the rate con matches what is on the bill of lading. Read any details as well to check for any inconsistencies.
When in doubt, call one of the Medallion Transport & Logistics and NHH Services’ corporate offices. If something doesn’t look right, always double check. Our corporate offices are available for everyone in our network of carriers, owner-operators and drivers.
